As you know, the next iPhone is expected to ditch the 3.5mm analog audio jack for wireless headphones, powered by Bluetooth, and wired ones, driven by Lightning. Now, certain sources are adamant that the handset may ship with a Lightning-to-3.5-mm audio adapter in the box so that folks could continue using their existing audio accessories.

Today, we get another glimpse of the claimed adapter in a set of leaked images and an accompanying high-resolution video. This latest leak came on Thursday via Vietnamese blog Tinhte.vn, which claims to have received the adapter from a Foxconn factory.

First, let’s take a look at the video hands-on (hope your Vietnamese isn’t rusty).

As you would expect, the adapter is very short. Its industrial design, as you can see for yourself, indeed resembles Apple’s existing adapters, such as the USB-C to USB and Thunderbolt to Ethernet.

After plugging your wired headphones or other piece of audio equipment into the 3.5mm end of the adapter, and connecting the other end into the Lightning port of your iOS device, iPhone 7 owners should be able to enjoy analog audio from their iOS device without needing to buy a Lightning-enabled version of EarPods or put up with sound quality issues plaguing Bluetooth headphones.

The site tore apart the accessory to reveal what seems to be electronics and an encryption chip, which is mandated by Apple for all ‘Made for iPhone’ certified Lightning accessories. The fact may be interpreted as yet another indication that the pictured product could be a genuine Apple accessory.

When connected to an iPad running iOS 9 or older, a prompts appear saying that “This accessory is not supported by this device.” For those wondering, plugging the adapter into a device like the iPhone 6s or iPhone SE with a beta of iOS 10 installed works without any hiccups.

According to the site, you can even plug the headphones into both the standard 3.5mm audio jack on an existing iPhone and then connect the adapter to the Lightning port, in which case iOS will route audio through the Lightning port.

The biggest downside to ditching the 3.5mm audio jack is the fact that owners of wired headphones won’t be able to listen to music whilst charging the device. On the plus side, the move to all-digital sound should enhance the sound quality.

The removal of the 3.5mm audio jack would also free up space inside the device for other components because the 3.55mm jack is quite long inside the device and an additional digital-to-analog (DAC) converter chip is required on the logic board

Cydia Substrate gets updated for iOS 9.2-9.3.3

Saurik has released an update for CydiaSubstrate on Thursday that brings the package up to version 0.9.6200.

If you’re running the latest jailbreak for iOS 9.2-9.3.3 from Pangu/25PP, then this update is a must-have for you.

For those who don’t know, this extension is the backbone of all of your jailbreak tweaks. They all rely on this package to install and run on your device, and it protects your device from being damaged from potentially faulty jailbreak tweaks.

What’s new?

Because this update is centered around support for iOS 9.2-9.3.3, you already know it’s going to add support for the latest firmware versions after becoming jailbreakable for the first time over the weekend. Of course, there are some additional changes apart from support for iOS 9.2-9.3.3, so we’ll talk about those below.

One of the first things Saurik discusses in the change log is a problem with the iOS 9.2-9.3.3 jailbreak and storage. As it turns out, there appears to be a storage problem on this jailbreak, and the Cydia Substrate update will help “mitigate” the problem. Yes – mitigate. It appears that this will not fix the problem fully, and it’s unknown whether or not it ever will.

To mitigate the problem, Saurik is now stashing the installation target of extensions, which essentially means that it’s trying to save you storage space by controlling where your jailbreak tweaks are installed.

If you installed any other extensions from Cydia to fix this issue, such as a workaround released by iOS developer Coolstar, then many people are actually recommending removing the extension before updating Cydia Substrate.

Another change in the update is a bug fix for a problem where function hooking into all versions of Cydia Substrate could cause issues on the device itself, such as instability.

Most importantly, Cydia Substrate now supports the No Substrate Mode on iOS 9.2-9.3.3, which is an invaluable feature for when your devices bug-out due to a jailbreak tweak and you want to boot up without any extensions so you can remove the troubled one.

Saurik explains that the process to get into No Substrate Mode on iOS 9.2 and later is to press and hold the volume up button while using the jailbreak app from Pangu after the device has already booted, which means that the process has changed a little since previous versions of iOS.

The changed process is likely due to the fact that the jailbreak is semi-untethered and only works after the device has been booted and then activated into a jailbroken state through the Pangu app. Since the jailbreak is already disabled after a restart, it wouldn’t do much to try and use the volume button trick immediately following an attempted reboot.

Keep in mind

Saurik notes in the Cydia description that all the added support for iOS 9.2-9.3.3 should not cause any issues with using Cydia Substrate on previous jailbroken versions of iOS, such as iOS 9.1 and earlier, but if you do notice any problems, let him know via email as soon as possible so he can look into it and try to hammer out a fix

Springtomize 3 is a $2.99 download from Cydia’s BigBoss repository for everyone who doesn’t already own it, however Cydia is not yet allowing purchases from jailbreakers given the fact that the Pangu jailbreak is still so new. As a result, the only people who can download the updated version of Springtomize 3 right now are those who already own it, as it’s a free update for everyone that owned it previously.

Saurik should be enabling purchases in Cydia after a week or two when the jailbreak and Cydia become more stable, so be sure to check back frequently to see if you can purchase it if you’re unable to do so right now.

The new iOS 9.2-9.3.3 jailbreak from Pangu has been all the rage over the weekend and into this week, and one of the things that stands out most about it is how it’s a semi-untethered jailbreak.

For those who want to make sure their jailbreak is being initialized correctly after each reboot, Initialized is a new jailbreak tweak that notifies you every time your jailbreak is re-initialized.

The point of Initialized

When you reboot your semi-untethered device, your jailbreak tweaks and Cydia are going to be dead and useless to you until you re-run the Pangu app that was installed on the device itself. When you do, your device resprings after the jailbreak becomes re-initialized.

Because there’s no notification or anything of that sort when you reboot your device and because you’re probably used to unethered jailbreaks by now, you may or may not forget that Cydia needs to be re-initialized. With this new jailbreak tweak, you’ll know if your tweaks are active or not because you’ll either get the notification when it turns back on, or you won’t.

When you do, you’ll know that Cydia has been re-initialized successfully. This is because it’s a Cydia Substrate jailbreak tweak, and the only way it’s going to be able to show you any notification at all is when Cydia Substrate is actually running on your device.

If it doesn’t show up upon rebooting your device, that should be a good reminder for you that you need to go in and perform the Pangu app’s re-initialization process.

How it works

Whenever you reboot your device, Cydia, Cydia Substrate, and all other important jailbreak add-ons are going to be in a dormant state until they’re re-activated by the Pangu app. Since all Cydia Substrate tweaks are going to be inactive when you reboot, you won’t typically see this notification on your Lock screen after a reboot.

What you want to do is make it a habit of yours to look for the notification, because when you do, you will know that Cydia Substrate is up and running, which means your jailbreak tweaks are too.

After you run the Pangu app, you should then see your device respring, and immeidately after, you’ll see a notification like the one above on the Lock screen that says, “Initialized: The Jailbreak has been initialized. Enjoy!”

The tweak really has no functional purpose other than to remind you that your jailbreak is up and running again, but for those who are just getting used to the semi-untether concept, it might be good to have for the time being, at least until the habit is picked up.

Wrapping up

For what it is, it’s nothing more than a notification to let you know if your jailbreak has been initialized correctly after a respring or a reboot.

For me, an experienced jailbreaker, it seems like redundant information, but I think some newer users who aren’t yet used to the concept might enjoy the notification because it’s one that provides the peace of mind that everything’s working again after running the Pangu app.

When you jailbreak your iOS 9.3.3 device with the latest Pangu jailbreak tool, you may end up with a third-party application store that you don’t really want on your device.

In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to remove the unwanted third-party application store without getting rid of Cydia or the Pangu app that you need to boot semi-untethered.

Why to remove the third-party app store

The third-party app store that comes installed on many of these China-based jailbreaks has long been connected to the roots of app piracy, and you may also even end up installing an app that has malware built into it.

For this reason, it’s best to simply remove the third-party app store from your iOS device after you jailbreak it with the latest Pangu jailbreak tool for Windows, or from the web with a web-based jailbreak.

This third-party app store may be installed on your device whether you have jailbroken from a Windows PC, or if you followed the newer web-based jailbreak. So either way, it’s a good idea to look into this.

How to do it

If you want to remove that third-party app store, just to be on the safe side, then follow these steps:

1) Open Cydia from your Home screen and open the Installed tab at the bottom of the app.

2) Next, tap on the PP app store from the list of installed packages:

4) Another prompt will ask you to confirm the changes, so tap on the Confirm button:

5) A black screen appears with white text that goes through the removal process. When finished, tap on the Return to Cydia button:

If you check your Home screen, the third-party app store should be gone from there too:

How to jailbreak iOS 9.3.3 without a computer

For those who are unaware, Pangu launched a new jailbreak for iOS 9.2-9.3.3 over the weekend. Now, an iOS developer from the jailbreak scene has made it possible to jailbreak your iOS 9.3.3 device directly from your iOS device itself without the need for a computer.

It’s officially JailbreakMe-style, and in this tutorial, we’ll show you how to do it!

This is a semi-untethered jailbreak, which means you have to re-launch the jailbreak app on the device after every reboot in order to make Cydia functional again. Nevertheless, it works like any other jailbreak and lets you customize your device to your liking with jailbreak tweaks and extensions.

Jailbreak iOS 9.3.3, no computer needed

If you’re eager to get jailbroken again, you can now do it right from your iOS device without the need to run any software on your computer. This is especially useful if you don’t have Windows at your disposal.

To jailbreak iOS 9.3.3 on your device, follow these steps:

1) Update your iOS device to iOS 9.3.3. I highly recommend this step because iOS 9.3.3 has all the latest bug fixes and security improvements, yet it can still be jailbroken.

2) Disable your passcode and disable Find My iPhone on your device for the greatest chance of jailbreak success.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard the great news about Pangu releasing an official jailbreak for iOS 9.2-9.3.3 over the weekend. Despite the fact that it’s what we call a semi-untethered jailbreak around here, it’s still a fully-functional jailbreak.

On the other hand, lots of people seem to be having some issues jailbreaking their devices, so we’ll be talking about some of the common errors you might be making so you can try again and get your device jailbroken; finally!

Problems jailbreaking iOS 9.3.3?

If you’re trying to jailbreak your device because you’re ultra excited, just like we were this morning when we pieced together a comprehensive step-by-step tutorial for Windows, then there’s a good chance you probably ran into some hiccups. It’s a brand-new tool, and that means there are some bugs that need to be ironed out, and probably will be in coming weeks.

Here are some of the most common things you need to double-check when jailbreaking your device(s):

If the jailbreak tool won’t open

Are you opening it in Windows?

The iOS 9.3.3 jailbreak is only available on Windows, not Mac OS X. If you’re trying to open the app on Mac, you will be disappointed because Macs can’t run .exe files.

Make sure to open the file on a Windows machine, whether it’s a Bootcamp partition, virtual machine, or even a PC that you have to borrow from the library or from a friend.

Did you close it recently?

We noticed that if you close the Pangujailbreak tool on your PC, and try to re-launch it, it doesn’t ever seem to want to open back up again.

To fix this, you can actually just restart your computer and then try to launch the app again. After doing this, it would launch again without any issues, every single time.

Did you allow it access?

Later iterations of Windows are stricter on what kinds of software that you can launch on your machine to prevent it from being infected with viruses and malware. Because Pangu isn’t an established app developer under Microsoft, you should run the app as an administrator to give it elevated privileges.

In some cases, you may also need to allow access through some firewalls, including the one built into Windows itself. If you don’t, you will have connectivity issues.

If the jailbreak keeps failing to install Cydia

Are you jailbreaking a 32-bit device?

The Pangu jailbreak for iOS 9.3.3 does not support 32-bit devices like the iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, and iPhone 5c. This jailbreak is designed for 64-bit devices like the iPhone 5s and later only.

Some people have reported spotty support for the iPad Pro as well, so if you’re using an iPad Pro, keep in mind that you might experience some bumpiness until Pangu irons out this issue.

Are you running iOS 9.3.3?

I highly recommend updating your iOS device to iOS 9.3.3, rather than sitting on iOS 9.2 or some other firmware in between. First of all, it’s Apple’s latest firmware release, and that means you not only get all the latest and greatest features, but you also get the latest security fixes, including one that fixes a really nasty TIFF image exploit that could be used by malicious hackers.

By having the latest firmware installed, you eliminate any freak chance that the firmware version you’re running has some sort of bug that passed the jailbreak testers’ eyes prior to its release. So just do yourself a favor, and download and install iOS 9.3.3.

Did you prepare your device prior to jailbreaking?

With most of Pangu’s jailbreaks, it is suggested that you disable Find My iPhone and turn off your passcode prior to jailbreaking. Unlike previous tools, do not turn on Airplane Mode, because this jailbreak relies on an internet connection to verify a free certificate before the jailbreak can be completed.

Keep your internet connected while you’re jailbreaking your device, because this is an important step.

Is iTunes installed and trusted?

The jailbreak requires that you have iTunes installed on your computer. If you don’t you will need to download and install it prior to launching the tool.

Once you do, make sure to trust your computer from your iOS device and then trust your your iOS device through iTunes. If you don’t, they won’t be able to talk to one another over the Lightning to USB cable connection.

Are you leaving your device alone?

The jailbreak tool recommends that you don’t touch any buttons to multi-task on the device while it’s trying to complete the jailbreak process. Don’t run apps in the background or fiddle around with the device while it’s jailbreaking, because this can cause instability in the jailbreak process and cause it to fail.

Let it do its thing, and play with it later on, after the jailbreak is completed.

This one seems like a given, but you wouldn’t believe how many people just dive into things without knowing what they’re doing. The Pangu jailbreak tool is currently in Chinese, and not English, so 90% of the people who visit this site can’t read what it’s trying to say.

If apps are crashing

Did you reboot recently?

It’s important to keep in mind that this is a semi-untethered jailbreak. What this means is that you have to re-run the jailbreak tool from the iOS device itself after every power off and power on that you perform on the device. If you don’t, Cydia will crash because it’s in limbo.

You can fix this by going through the proper semi-untethered jailbreak reboot procedure, which we detail in a comprehensive step-by-step tutorial. Make sure to open the correct Pangu app, because if you don’t opt out of the PP app store just before the jailbreak process, you’ll have two icons added to your Home screen.

Did your jailbreak goof up?

If you completed the jailbreak, but you saw prompts or warning messages that you wouldn’t normally expect to see following a completed jailbreak, then you might have crashing apps because the jailbreak process went completely wrong.

Sometimes when you see these error messages, Cydia and the other apps will install on your Home screen just fine, but when you try and launch them, you’ll quickly realize that the installation must have been corrupted because they won’t launch properly. Unfortunately, the only fix for this is to restore your device and try re-jailbreaking.

Are your tweaks compatible with iOS 9.3.3?

Alright, this one’s a given, but the jailbreak was just released and there was no warning ahead of time, so developers haven’t gotten to updating their tweaks for iOS 9.3.3 just yet. This means some instability is to be expected.

If you installed a jailbreak tweak that isn’t compatible with iOS 9.3.3 yet, then it could cause springboard crashes or app crashes that you otherwise wouldn’t expect.
